Francisco de Zurbaran (1598-1664), Spanish artist, nicknamed the Spanish Caravaggio. He is best known for his religious paintings, including several of his namesake, St Francis of Assisi, as well as a mythological series on the Labours of Hercules, some portraits and still lifes.
